May 24, 2024 Updated 3:29 p.m. Morgan Spurlock, a documentary filmmaker who gained fame with his Oscar-nominated 2004 film Super Size Me, has died. Spurlock's friend and publicist, Matthew Hiltzik, told The Hollywood Reporter that the filmmaker died on Thursday. He was 53. In Super Size Me, Spurlock ate nothing but McDonald's food for 30 days to document the effects on his health. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $11 million worldwide. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. After Super Size Me, Spurlock went on to direct a number of other documentaries, including Where in the World Is Osama bin Laden? (2008), The Greatest Movie Ever Sold (2011), and One Direction: This Is Us (2013). He also hosted the CNN series Inside Man from 2013 to 2015.
