Avalanche stave off elimination, beat Stars 5-3 in Game 4

Makar, Wood lead the way in Colorado's victory

Cale Makar scored two goals and Miles Wood completed the comeback as the Colorado Avalanche avoided elimination by defeating the Dallas Stars 5-3 in Game 4 on Wednesday night.

The Stars failed to close out the series in Game 5, which will now shift back to Denver for Game 6 on Friday night.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the second period, the Avalanche rallied back to tie the game before taking the lead for good on Wood's goal late in the third period.

Nathan MacKinnon, who had a goal and an assist in the win, said he was proud of the way his team responded after falling behind.

"We knew we had to come out and play hard tonight," MacKinnon said. "We didn't want to go down 3-1 in the series. We stuck together and found a way to get the win."

Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev made 23 saves to help Colorado end a three-game losing streak.

Joe Pavelski got his first goal of the 2024 playoffs for the Stars, who also got goals from Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson.

Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger made 32 saves in the loss.

Conclusion

The Avalanche now have a chance to tie the series in Game 6 on Friday night. The Stars, meanwhile, will be looking to close out the series and advance to the second round of the playoffs.
